WHAT IS SUPER CRUISE™

Available Super Cruise is the first true hands-free driving-assistance feature for compatible highways.
Super Cruise utilizes advanced technologies to provide the ease and convenience of hands-free driving. Thanks to Lane Change on Demand and Automatic Lane Change, even changing lanes is hands-free. It’s safe to say your commutes will never be the same.

Always pay attention while driving and when using Super Cruise. Do not use a handheld device.

HOW SUPER CRUISE™ WORKS

HANDS-FREE DRIVING | CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY | SIMPLE INTERFACE

With an attentive driver, and under the proper conditions, Super Cruise™-equipped vehicles can permit hands-free operation of the vehicle. Super Cruise technology works with Adaptive Cruise Control which can control acceleration and braking while it is enabled and operating to maintain a driver-selected following gap time. Super Cruise™ functions with GMC Connected Services and uses real-time precise positioning cameras, sensors, and LiDAR map data to help detect curves, helping to make long drives and commutes more enjoyable.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO USE SUPER CRUISE™

GMC CONNECTED SERVICES

Super Cruise™ functionality is enabled by a data connection for real-time, precise positioning and periodic Super Cruise™ map updates. In order to operate Super Cruise™, you must have an active and eligible GMC Connected Services plan. Super Cruise™ vehicles are also connected to OnStar® Emergency Services, so Emergency-Certified OnStar Advisors can assist drivers should they become nonresponsive while Super Cruise is active.

All Super Cruise™-equipped vehicles include 3 years of connectivity to support functionality, after which an eligible paid Connected Services plan is required.

DRIVER-ASSISTANCE FEATURES

HOW TO USE SUPER CRUISE™

STEP 1

In order to use Super Cruise™, first press the Adaptive Cruise Control button on the steering wheel to turn on Adaptive Cruise Control. The Adaptive Cruise Control symbol will illuminate in white on the instrument cluster. If Adaptive Cruise Control is already set, the symbol will be green with a speed shown.

STEP 2

When Super Cruise™ detects you are on a compatible highway, paying sufficient attention and all other driving conditions are met (lane markings visible, GPS available, no system faults, etc.) a white Super Cruise™ symbol will display on the instrument cluster.

STEP 3

When it is safe to do so, press the Super Cruise™ button on the steering wheel to engage Super Cruise™. When the symbol and steering-wheel light bar illuminate in green, you may remove your hands from the steering wheel. Do not remove your hands from the steering wheel unless the light bar is green, which indicates that Super Cruise is steering the vehicle. To disengage Super Cruise™, press the Super Cruise™ button again or press the brake pedal.

STEP 4

Newly offered on select Super Cruise-equipped™ vehicles, available automatic lane change functionality allows your vehicle to change lanes without any input from the driver while Super Cruise™ is active. For Lane Change on Demand, when the driver activates the turn signal, the system will look for an acceptable opening in the indicated lane and alert other vehicles that a lane change is imminent. If the indicated lane is determined to be open, the vehicle will merge into the desired lane.

When Automatic Lane Change is engaged, the gauge cluster will inform the driver when a lane change will occur and will gently guide the vehicle into a desired lane around the vehicle in its path. Or, if the desired lane is unavailable, it will notify the driver that merging must be manually completed. The system will display messages, such as “looking for an opening” or “changing lanes,” to keep the driver informed. When Super Cruise™ is active, your vehicle will also change lanes if the current lane is ending, as well as pass (to the left) around slower moving vehicles and return to its original lane.

LEARNING THE ALERT SYSTEM

Drivers must pay attention to the road at all times. Our head pose and eye gaze software helps make sure your eyes are on the road, and it alerts you when you need to pay more attention or take back control.

FIRST ALERT

If the system detects that you may not be paying attention to the road ahead, the steering-wheel light bar flashes green to prompt you to return your attention to the road.

SECOND ALERT

The system determines continued lack of attention to the road ahead, the steering-wheel light bar flashes red to notify you to look at the road and steer the vehicle by firmly taking control of the steering wheel. Also, beeps will sound or the Safety Alert Seat, if equipped, will vibrate.

THIRD ALERT

If the steering-wheel light bar flashes red for too long, a voice prompt will be heard. You should take over steering immediately; otherwise, the vehicle will slow in your lane of travel and eventually brake to a stop, as well as prompt an Emergency-Certified OnStar® Advisor to call into the vehicle to check on you. Super Cruise™ and Adaptive Cruise Control will disengage.

MESSAGING

Super Cruise™ may not be available or may disengage from being active based on several operating conditions. Use the Super Cruise™ button on the steering wheel to view Driver Information Centre messages about system operation.

If the Super Cruise™ symbol does not appear, press the Super Cruise button to display a Driver Information Centre message about why the system is unavailable.

WHEN NOT TO USE SUPER CRUISE™

These are some of the situations when Super Cruise™ should not be activated:
• During difficult or uncertain driving conditions
• When lane markings are poor or visibility is limited
• In a construction zones
• In slippery or in other adverse conditions, including rain, sleet, fog, ice, or snow
• On a road shoulder or service drive
• On a freeway or highway exit lane

In cases when vehicle speed is greater than the set speed, Super Cruise Set Speed will be equal to the vehicle speed. When set speed is above maximum allowed Super Cruise speed, Super Cruise Set Speed will be equal to the vehicle speed if under the maximum allowed Super Cruise speed. Super Cruise will also slow down around sharp curves.

How and when does the map information used by Super Cruise update?
